Darren was born in England, but he grew up in Australia, in the city of Sydney. He moved to Canada when he was in his late teens and eventually got a job in a restaurant while taking care of his two kids. In Port Alberni, where he began as a dishwasher and worked his way up to head chef, he learned to love and understand food.
Laura worked in a number of restaurants in Port Alberni before the two of them met at a certain Cafe. Darren and Laura got married in the spring of 2010, bringing together two families. They both wanted to own their own restaurant and make it feel like Australia, full of art and culture.
